The task for this project was to develop a course for an audience of your choice and build it into the Blackboard LMS. I chose to develop a course for adult learners, specifically K12 educators needing to further develop their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practice. The 12 week course was designed to help ensure that teachers attending had the tools necessary to develop safe and welcoming classrooms for all students to learn. The challenge in building this course was to address the fact that teachers are professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences themselves and serving in a variety of school settings. As a result, I chose a branch-designed and hypercontent instruction model for the course in order to provide teachers with that individualism and relevance they tend to seek out in professional development. Each of the three course modules was aligned to a specific essential question and full of lessons and resources that utilized tools both within and outside the Blackboard LMS for learning. In addition to the course content itself, the project required that I develop tools for student success (class syllabi, course timelines, rubrics for assignments, etc) and organize the Blackboard class in a way that was accessible and easy to navigate. The course was designed to meet common cartridge standards and even though I developed it on Blackboard, I have exported the common cartridge file and could utilize the course on another aligned learning management system.
